Final Projects:

As a member of the LGBTQ community, I am interested in gay rights and activism.

In this project, I used Photoshop to create two album covers with the same title SPECTRUM.

I selected Lil Nas X, a homosexual singer who is gaining popularity in current music industry, as the protagonist of the cover.

While the two covers have different visual elements, they together tell a story in which Lil is determined to be himself and finally becomes who he wants to be.

Learn to respect and value your emotions and experiences because they are what make you who you are!

This project is named "The EMO Gallery", which shows an artist presenting his emotions to others.

To create it, I applied both Adobe Illustrator and Procreate.

As a milestone in LGBTQ- themed films, Brokeback Mountain tells a romantic tragedy happens between Ennis and Jack, two homosexual men living in the 1960s.

In this project, I made two videos that tells the romantic relationship between gay couples.

While the first video, which is a summary of Brokeback Mountain, generates our negative feelings, the second video depicts us a more hopeful image in which two gay men living in modern society pursing love.

Reflections:

Each time I tell my friends that I have learned how to create videos and images using Adobe programs, they often say, "Wait, I thought you were taking a writing class."

This class is the most creative and unique writing class I have ever taken. Instead of writing tons of papers that ask us "what film techniques are used in Citizen Kane" or "explain a communication theory and apply it to a social issue," we express ourselves through texts, images, videos, and websites.

While working on these projects, I felt like I was deeply analyzing myself by recalling what I had experienced and what parts of myself I wanted to present. In other words, as I was creating my works, I was also gradually turning myself into visual and audio elements. However, expressing yourself does not mean you say whatever first comes into your mind. To practice multimedia communication, we need to focus on the word "communication." Since effective communication requires both the speakers' and listeners' participation, we need to consider our audiences carefully and how we can transmit our messages most effectively.

When I look back at my work, I feel encouraged and empowered. I realize that writing is not only about typing essays on your computer. What's more, it is a magical experience for you to creatively express yourself and give your language much power that can influence others.
